Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13. Make sure your junior firefighter program or Explorer Post takes advantage of this opportunity to spread important fire prevention and safety messages and information in your community and school.
The theme for this year’s event is: “Have 2 Ways Out.” This theme focuses on the importance of planning multiple escape routes in case of an emergency or fire. Junior firefighter programs can help make their communities safer by conducting presentations and leading fire drills at schools, retirement and assisted living homes, churches, and other facilities. In addition, consider holding a fire department open house to discuss home escape plans with families in your community, or pass out information at a local fair or retail area.
You can find press releases, public service announcements, and additional tools and resources at www.firepreventionweek.org. Fire Corps offers a Fire Prevention Week resource center, tip sheets, and more resources at www.firecorps.org/fpw.
