NVFC Partners Working to Keep Teens and Communities Safe
The NVFC’s National Junior Firefighter Program is always seeking new resources and information to share with departments and youth. Now, the NVFC is partnering with the Home Safety Council and Impact Teen Drivers, two national nonprofits, to bring important safety information to junior fighters and their program advisors.
The Home Safety Council (HSC) is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. Find resources for teaching preschool through middle school age children here . HSC also offers information to distribute to all age groups in your community. Visit the HSC web site at www.homesafetycouncil.org for more resources and information to use in your junior firefighter program’s fire safety outreach efforts.
Impact Teen Drivers is a national nonprofit organization whose goal is to make teens aware of the dangers of reckless and distracted driving and reduce teen deaths through online and in-school campaigns. Their message to young people is simple, yet vital: Focus on the road ahead and get to where you are going safely.
Emergency vehicle accidents are the second leading cause of line-of-duty firefighter fatalities each year. By instilling good driving habits in teen firefighters, your department is helping keep the future of the fire service safe. Fewer accidents also mean less road-side calls for fire departments. Visit www.impactteendrivers.org to learn more about safe driving for teens.
The NVFC web site includes additional health and safety information for first responders. For more program news, information, and resources for your junior firefighter program, visit www.nvfc.org/juniors.
