NVFC Hosts Successful National Junior Firefighter Academy in Pennsylvania

December 19, 2012 News 0 Comments

Thanks to support from California Casualty and Spartan Motors, the NVFC brought the National Junior Firefighter Academy to the Harrisburg (PA) Area Community College (HACC) on November 3. The event was a great success, with dozens of junior firefighters and program advisors from four states taking part in hands-on training.

Attendees began the day with a classroom session on leadership and future paths in the fire service and then headed outside for training drills focused on teaching juniors practical skills they could use on a fire scene in a safe, non-operational environment. Drills included EMS/First Aid, using a Stokes basket, thermal imaging camera operations, dummy drag, search and rescue, and more.

The Academy provided an excellent opportunity for youth and advisors to share ideas, learn new drills, and make connections with firefighters from other departments. The NVFC thanks all the participants who helped make this event a great success, HACC for providing their training facility, and program sponsors California Casualty and Spartan Motors for making it possible.
